In 1999, 606,000 people received minor injuries as a result of traffic accidents. In 1999, more than 73,000 people received moderate injuries. In that same year, more than 40,000 people received serious to critical injuries as a result of automobile accidents. Alcohol was involved in 38% of fatal accidents and it played a part in 7% of all reported traffic accidents whether someone was injured or killed, according to The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
